FAQ

What is the age range for students at your swim school?

Tiki Time Swim School takes students that are ages 3 years old and up to adult.

What is the ratio of students to instructor?   1 to 1 unless  your child has a sibling/friend that wants to join them for lessons.  If sharing a lesson with a friend the charge is $20.00 per child, per lesson.

I would like my kids to be in the same class, but they are at different levels.  Can we make that work?

Yes, of course!  Rarely are students at the same place at the same time in the learning process.  Your child will get personal attention they need for their level.

What is the pool like?

Tiki Time Swim School is located at a private residence.  Our pool was built in 2010 and is solar heated with a saline system.  The pool is to 85 -89 degrees Fahrenheit, weather permitting.   The pool is covered each night to maintain heat and cleanliness.  Weather can be unpredictable, cloudy weather can cool off a solar heated pool.   Lessons will continue as long as the pool is over 80 degrees F.  The instructor can reschedule lessons due to weather.    We have a table with shade for parents and siblings to use as well a changing room and restroom for use while at our facility.

How can we be ready for lessons?

Before the lesson, sunscreen your child up at home, so it has time to soak in and let them use the restroom.  I have a bathroom here to use (of course), it just stops the flow of the lesson.  If your child has goggles please bring them, they really help getting faces in the water.  I have “loaner” goggles that can be used during the lesson if needed.

To goggle or not?

Yes, I am a fan of goggles, but I don’t own stocks in Speedo.  I just know that when I open my eyes under water I want to be able to see what is there as clearly as possible.  The unknown can be a scary place.  If your child has goggles please bring them, they really help getting faces in the water.  I have “loaner” goggles that can be used during the lesson if needed.  Dick's Sporting Goods is right around the corner from my house, a good pair should not cost more than $15.00.

What is my child is not potty trained?

If your child is not potty trained, they will need to be in disposable swim diaper.  I also request that the child wear a reusable swim diaper covering the disposable diaper.  I have some “loaner” reusable swim diapers to borrow.  You can get swim diapers at www.kiefer.com

Where is the entrance to the pool?

The entrance to my pool is on Braircliff Drive.  Walk around to the side of my house and you will see a gate with waves on top and a beware of dog sign.  Don’t worry the dog will be inside the house.

What can I do during the lesson?

Please feel free to grab a chair in the tropical paradise I am trying to create in my backyard.  I usually have tunes playing and magazines for you to enjoy.   WIFI is available also.  If you choose to leave you must be back by the end of your lesson.  I cannot watch your child after the appointed lesson time is past.  In other words, if you choose to leave, please be back on time.

How many lessons until my kid can swim?

Every child is different.  My goal is to introduce water to your child so they can learn to respect it and enjoy it.  The most important aspect of a child learning to swim is exposure, so get them in the water as much as possible and keep it a positive experience.

What should I do if I am running late?

Please call 408-225-8396 and leave a message if you are running late.  Once you do arrive, have your child get ready for the pool as fast as possible.  The lesson will continue for the remaining allocated lesson time.

What if my child does not want to get in the pool?

I know that new places especially pools can sometimes be scary.  On your first lesson I take your child around the pool by hand and tell them about it so they have some knowledge of what is going on around them.  Knowledge is power.  If they are still upset then we may start very slowly.  I always want lessons in my pool to be fun.
